How do ATTACK and DEFENSE scores work?
ATTACK is the offensive power of a unit and represents its ability to do damage. DEFENSE represents the ability of the unit to resist damage. Use the following chart to compare how likely a unit with any given ATTACK score is to damage any given DEFENSE score:

How do I choose which units to attack if there is more than one enemy in a hex I move into?
You automatically attack the unit that owns that hex first. If there are no units that own that hex, then you will attack the unit with the highest attack rating first. If there are other units allied with that unit, it confers a bonus to that unit's defense score.
How do I earn gold yen for my cities?
Every city earns a base of 5 gold yen per turn. You can construct a gemcutter in your city to automatically generate extra gold yen per turn, but the best way to earn gold yen is to claim a hex with one of your units. The more hexes you have claimed, the more gold yen you will earn for the city that created that unit. To claim a hex, simply move into it when it's empty. Your unit will have to stay in that hex for two turns before it begins to earn gold yen. If an enemy unit is already in the hex, you will need to defeat or destroy that unit before you can claim the hex for your own.
How do I move my units? How do I attack other units?
On the map page, simply click and drag your units to the new hex. If an enemy unit is in the new hex, you will automatically initiate an attack against them. If another unit you own or a unit from an allied clan is already in the new hex, you will simply move into the hex as though it were clear. However you will not gain any gold yen from this hex if another unit is already the owner. When you move a unit, each hex you move uses up one point from the movement pool of that unit. When the unit has no more movement left, it stays where it is until it gains more movement.
How do I take over another city?
All cities begin with a loyalty rating of 100%. If the city is attacked successfully and has no defending units, this value drops.

When loyalty reaches 0%, the city becomes the property of the attacker. Therefore it is VERY important to protect your cities with walls and units.

Loyalty recovers over time, so if you can fend off attacks successfully a city's loyalty will eventually return to 100%.

How do my units regain movement and hit points?
Every turn, all your units regain one(1) point of movement and five(5) hit points automatically. You do not need to take any action.
How often do I earn gold yen from a hex?
A hex generates gold yen once per turn. You do not need to take any action other than to claim the hex with a unit by moving into it when it's empty.
One of my units is in a hex with an enemy unit. How did this happen?
This can happen in several ways:

  • 1) Your unit was in a hex with a unit from an allied clan, but the clans ended their alliance before either unit was moved out of that hex;
  • 2) One of the units has a special ability, such as MUMMIFIED, that saved it from being destroyed when it was forced out of another hex by an attacker;
  • 3) One of the units is considered a SCOUT, which means it can not attack other units unless they are also scouts;

While an enemy unit is in your hex, you can not earn gold yen from the hex. You can attack the enemy unit by moving out and back into the hex, or a unit outside of this hex can attack the enemy normally.
How do units with the ARCHER ability work?
Units with the ARCHER ability add a bonus to any other units that attack from the same hex the ARCHER units are in.
How do units with the ARTIFACT ability work?
Units with ARTIFACT do not count toward a city's population limit but take extra damage from siege units in combat.
How do units with the FLEET ability work?
Units with FLEET automatically regain three(3) movement points per turn instead of the normal one.
How do units with the MINER ability work?
Units with the MINER ability automatically generate 50% more gold yen from a hex it has claimed.
How do units with the REGENERATION ability work?
Units with REGENERATION automatically heal ten(10) hit points per turn instead of the normal five.
How do units with the ROYAL ability work?
Units with ROYAL will decrease the loyalty of any city they attack by a much greater amount than any other unit.
How do units with the SCOUT ability work?
Units with the SCOUT ability do not attack other units unless they also have the SCOUT ability. When a scout is in a hex, any enemy units there are displayed to you with their full stats and details. If a scout tries to enter a hex that has enemy scouts, it will have to defeat all scout units in that hex before any information can be seen. Scouts do not suffer KNOCKBACK; they are always destroyed when defeated.

It is wise to keep at least a few scouts in your cities to make it more difficult for enemies to see what sort of units you have there.

Though scouts do not attack non-scout units, they can still be attacked by non-scout units. They also will destroy units pushed into them as a result of KNOCKBACK.

How do units with the SETTLER ability work?
Units with the SETTLER ability can not earn gold yen from a hex. Instead, they are able to create a new city in a hex they have claimed. To settle the hex, click the unit when on the map page. If a SETTLER unit has claimed that hex, the option to 'settle this hex' appears. Clicking this instantly creates a new city with no buildings and destroys the SETTLER unit.
How do units with the SIEGE ability work?
Units with the SIEGE ability can damage and destroy the walls of cities. When a city wall takes a certain amount of damage, it drops by one level. Walls are powerful tools for defending troops, so a successful attack on a walled city will almost always require the aid of SIEGE units. SIEGE units can not raid a city for gold.
How do units with the UNDEAD ability work?
Units with the UNDEAD ability do not require housing, and so do not count toward the total limit of units you can have. Usually, UNDEAD units decay after a certain amount of time or use.
What is KNOCKBACK?
When a unit in a hex is reduced to 50% or fewer hit points by an enemy unit, it is pushed in the opposite direction away from the attacker. If the hex is empty or there are friendly units in that hex, then the unit that suffered KNOCKBACK will simply be moved to the new hex. If the hex has only enemy units, then the unit that suffered KNOCKBACK is destroyed regardless of how many hit points it has left. Thus you can flank enemy units with your own to maximize your ability to destroy them.
Is Akayume set in Japan? Is Akayume based on Japanese mythology?
No. Akayume is set in a fantasy land that includes mythical monsters and magic. There are obvious influences from real cultures, but the game is not based on those cultures.
What Buildings Can I Create, and What are the Requirements?
DojoThe dojo allows you to make units. Without a dojo, a city can not create new units, but any existing units will continue to exist until lost. No special requirements to build.
VaultImproving the vault increases the amount of gold yen this city can hold. No special requirements to build.
HousingHousing increases the number of units you may have from this city by 2 per level. This is a global amount per city, so even units that are currently away from the city count toward the limit. No special requirements to build.
WallThe wall provides a significant defensive bonus to defending units at your base. It also serves as a niche that protects at least some of your gold yen. No special requirements to build.
GemcutterEach level of the gemcutter lets a city generate more gold yen per turn. Requires: Central Building, Level 1
Koi PondEach koi pond lowers the total upkeep costs from this city by 20 per level per turn. Requires: Central Building, Level 2 Nihon Only
MarketThe market lets you make one transfer to another city per level. Each transfer may be of up to 1000 gold yen and/or the ownership of a unit (the unit will not itself be moved). You may not transfer anything to cities you do not own. Requires: Central Building, Level 2
LibraryEach library level grants you access to additional units. The more powerful or useful the unit, the larger the library will need to be. No special requirements to build.
PalaceEach level of the palace gives you a special unit you can use to settle one new hex or take over an enemy city. Requires: Central Building, Level 3
Central BuildingImproving the central building reduces the cost and time to construct other structures. It is also a requirement for other buildings, such as the Palace. No special requirements to build.
CemeteryThe cemetery lets you create no-upkeep zombie units based on its level. Zombies automatically decay after a certain amount of time passes. No special requirements to build. Oni Only
